Laurier A. Fauteux aged 86, of New Bedford, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 2, 2022 at St. Luke's Hospital after a period of declining health. He was the husband of Bonnie J. (Bassett) Fauteux with whom he shared 45 wonderful years of marriage.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Laurent “Pete” and Anne (Charest) Fauteux, he resided in New Bedford most of his life.
Laurie served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War based at Itazuke Air Base in Japan. He served in the Air Force from 1953 to 1957 attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. He performed air craft maintenance.
Laurie received an Associate's degree in Electrical Engineering from S.M.T.I., now known as UMASS Dartmouth, Alumni 1969. Previously, he graduated 1961 from Industrial Technical School in Boston.
He worked as a B-Shift Supervisor at Polaroid Corporation for 25 years, where he became known as a diabolical MC for many infamous parties. That usually meant his alter ego, “Biff” would take over as master of ceremonies. Stories of said parties are still being enjoyed!
Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Christopher M. Fauteux and his wife Barbara and Timothy M. Fauteux; three grandchildren, William Fauteux and Noelle Fauteux and Bailey Fauteux. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also. He was predeceased by his sister Valerie Murphy and her husband Robert.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to the Disabled American Veterans, VA Regional Office, JFK Building, Government Center, Boston, MA 02203.
Laurie and his wife enjoyed travel and golf. Laurie and Bonnie had many memorable golf vacations to the Caribbean, Maine, Florida, and the Carolina's. On one trip to Cable Beach, Nassau, Bahamas, Laurie decided to golf barefoot. Little did he know that the course had been fertilized. He ended up with blue feet for the rest of the vacation!
Laurie was loved and enjoyed by all he met. He's best known for his engaging storytelling, “with a twist”. He relished in drawing people into long preambles before landing at the (often hilariously underwhelming) punch line! He was a true master of the art of the “Dad-joke”!
He was a patient, loving father, teacher of life. Loving Dude to Miss Bailey and adoring Pops to Master Liam and Miss Noelle.
Family and Friends are invited to join us for a celebration of a Life Well Lived. Please bring stories and happy memories to share.
