Leontina S. Macedo

Born in Porto Formoso, Sao Miguel, she was the beloved daughter of the late Jose Teixeira and Emilia S. (Elias) Medeiros. She shared 34 loving years of marriage with her late husband, Jose Macedo.

Leontina worked for many years as a stitcher at Calvin Clothing and Riverside Factory. Sewing was not only her profession, but a lifelong passion, and she continued stitching beautifully by hand throughout her life. She also enjoyed cooking, tending to her garden, spending time outdoors, and watching the news. Leontina was known for her strength, wisdom, and deep faith. She faithfully prayed the rosary and devoted her life to her family, cherishing the importance of passing down family values, traditions, and knowledge to future generations.

She is survived by her loving children, Jose Mario Macedo and his wife Leonor of Canada; Vidalia Barbosa of New Bedford; Victor Macedo and his wife Lucia of Portugal; twins Esmeralda Pacheco and Gabriela Leal Maio, both of Portugal; and Leonor Vieira of New Bedford. She also leaves behind 14 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her four sisters, three brothers, and one grandchild.

Her funeral will be held on Friday, May 22, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. from ROCK FUNERAL HOME, followed by her Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church, 136 Earle St. New Bedford. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 21, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at ROCK FUNERAL HOME, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford, MA 02745.
