Maria J. Carreiro

Born in Sao Miguel, Azores, the daughter of the late Manuel Duarte De Oliveira and Maria Da Gloria Ventura Da Silva, she came to the United States on April 26, 1983.

She was a loving nanny and caretaker to many children throughout the years. Maria was an excellent cook, enjoyed knitting and watching her favorite TV shows, especially soap operas. Most of all, she loved family gatherings and will be missed dearly by her loving family.

She is survived by her children, Maria Conceicao Amaral, Margarida Machado and Maria Brandao and husband Alcides; her son-in-law, Manuel Carreiro; her grandchildren, Sonia Fernandes, Monica Ferreira, Ilidio Amaral, Marco Amaral and Alex Brandao; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Palmira Carreiro, mother-in-law of the late Laudolino Machado and Dimas Amaral, grandmother of the late Gerardo Amaral, and sister of the late Onarina, Ines and Jose Duarte.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, September 12, 2024 from 5-8 pm in the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford. Her Funeral will be held on Friday, September 13, 2024 at 9 am from the funeral home followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 am in Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church, 136 Earle St., New Bedford. Burial in St. John’s Cemetery.
