Maria Gloria Torres

Maria Gloria (Raposo) Torres, age 90, of New Bedford passed away Sunday, April 14, 2013 at the New Bedford Health Care Center surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Jose F. Torres.

Born in the Azores, the daughter of the late Antonio Raposo and the late Maria (deJesus)Torres, she resided in Brazil from 1950-1968 and immigrated to the New Bedford area in 1968.

She worked as a stitcher at Elco Dress until her retirement. She was a member of the Holy Ghost Society, the Legion of Mary, and was extremely active in all church activities. She loved to watch her grandchildren play sports.

Survivors include her children, Luisa T. Reis and her husband John of Westport; Jose Torres and his wife Iveta of Acushnet; Nelson Torres of New Bedford; Maria Nogueira and her husband Helder of New Bedford; her daughter- in- law Shirley Torres of Acushnet; 4 brothers, Joao Raposo and his wife Conceicao of Canada, Antonio DeMelo of New Bedford; David Raposo and his wife Odete of South Dartmouth; Joaquim Raposo and his wife Carmen of Canada; 2 sisters, Sara Medeiros and Julia Raposo both of Canada; 11 grandchildren, Erik Reis, Todd Reis, Christina Melo, Stacey Macaroco, Oanaki Torres, Cheryl Batista, Tanya Torres, Matthew Torres, Nelson Nogueira, Daniel Nogueira Andrea Nogueira, 6 great- grandchildren, Alex Macaroco, Skyla Macaroco, Arianna Melo, Amber Melo, Isabella Batista, Kaedence Torres and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Jose Raposo and Leonilde Pimentel.

Her funeral will be held Thursday, April 18, 2013 at 9am at ROCK Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd, New Bedford, followed by a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10am at Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church, 136 Earle Street, New Bedford. Burial to follow in St. John Cemetery. Visiting Hours will be held Wednesday from 5pm-8pm.
