Mark David Pankiewicz, 52, of Acushnet, passed away Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at Sarah Brayton Nursing Center in Fall River after a lengthy illness. He was the son of Lillian (Courchaine) Pankiewicz and the late Theodore Pankiewicz.
Born in New Bedford, Mark attended Old Colony Regional Vocational Technical High School with studies in Automotive Mechanics. Mark went on to work in the automotive industry and, prior to his illness, was employed as a small engine mechanic at Mattapoisett Power Equipment.
Mark enjoyed farming, tinkering with his farm equipment, and spent summers bailing hayfields. He loved to participate in the Apple Peach Festival parade driving his tractor, and attending agricultural fairs in late summer and early fall. With his background in auto mechanics, he set up a workshop repairing and maintaining older vehicles and expanding to small engines. He enjoyed having his buddies stop by to help and hang out, while passing on his knowledge to those who wanted to learn to maintain their own vehicles.
He was a Harley Davidson enthusiast and participated in rides to raise funds for charity.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his sisters, Ann Bento and her husband James; Linda Oliver and her husband Donald; and Diane Goulder and her husband David; uncle Raymond Pankiewicz; seven nieces and nephews, Kerri, Jay, Danielle, Joshua, Caitlyn, Rachel, and Carolyn; several great nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express a heartfelt thank you to those who visited with Mark and brightened his day.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 16, 2023 from 5:00 to 8:00PM in the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford, MA 02745. Relatives and friends are invited. Burial will be Private. To leave a note of condolence: www.rock-funeralhome.com
