Merces Da Costa

Born in Salga, Sao Miguel, a daughter of the late Jose P. and Alexandria (Duarte) Correia she grew up there. She met and married Jose in Salga before coming to the United States in 1975. She was a communicate of Our Lady of Immaculate Conception Church.

She is survived by her children, Maria Joe Correia and her husband Jose F. of New Bedford, Nelia De Melo and her husband Jaime of Canada, Teresa Vafaee and her husband Sohrab of New Bedford, and Paul J. Da Costa and his wife Kerrie of New Bedford; grandchildren, Ricky, Mark, Kevin, Karen, Dariush, and Victoria; siblings Cecilia Cabral, Jose Duarte Correia, and Herculano Correia; six great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was also sister of the late Gloria D'Almeida.

Her funeral will be Friday at 9 a.m. from the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford followed a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Immaculate Conception Church, 136 Earle St., New Bedford.
