

Born in New Bedford, a son of the late Wilfred (Al) and Irene (Cottle) Phaneuf he lived most of his life in Acushnet. Mr. Phaneuf served in the United States Coast Guard, marrying Mrs. Phaneuf upon completion of his service. Mr. Phaneuf worked three jobs to support his family before being hired by Teledyne Rodney Metals in New Bedford, where he would rise to shift foreman in his over three decades of employment at the company.
Mr. Phaneuf achieved one of his lifelong goals when he went back while still working to get his high school diploma after being away from school for many years.
Paul enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and family, traveling, eating out at restaurants and watching sports on TV.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Mark Phaneuf and his wife Gayle of Acushnet and Matthew Phaneuf and his wife Tina of Ashland; four grandchildren, Amelia, Tarryn, Cameron, and Evan; a sister, Sandra Bourassa of Acushnet; and one niece, Nicole Bourassa of New Bedford.
His memorial mass will be held on Friday, April 8, 2016 at 11am in St. Mary’s Church, Main St., Fairhaven. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, New Bedford. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory should be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, PO Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38101-9908.
