Raymond Joseph Petitpas, 65, passed away at St. Luke’s Hospital on January 22, 2026. From the age of 35, he battled rheumatoid arthritis and being self-employed, he had to give up his business as a mechanic. He then became diabetic, and in his final years he was on dialysis three times a week for failing kidneys. All these things never stopped him from accomplishing whatever he wanted to do.
He was very persistent in doing things for himself. He always invented a way to make his life easier, such as getting dressed and going down a set of stairs.
Born in Minto, New Brunswick, Canada on 9/11/1960, and moved to Acushnet with his family in 1962. In 1970, he became a US citizen along with the rest of the family. In his later years he would make his yearly trips to his hometown where he had many cousins. He graduated from Old Colony in Rochester.
Raymond was predeceased by his parents, Alderic and Margaret (Legere) Petitpas. He is survived by his two sons, Zachary Raymond Petitpas and wife Annemarie, and Spencer Alderic Petitpas; grandson, Ethan Petitpas; siblings, Dianna Couto and husband Carl of Acushnet, Roger Petitpas of New Bedford, Bertha Rose of Naples, FL., Joanne Petitpas of Acushnet, and Paul Petitpas and wife Janice of Fairhaven. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Having been a well liked guy, he leaves countless friends, among them Canadian cousins.
We would like to thank all the doctors, nurses, and staff who took care of Raymond, especially the staff at DaVita Clinic, who took care of his dialysis. We also send our gratitude to all the people who anonymously paid for our brother’s meals at different restaurants where he frequently visited.
Abiding to Raymond's wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral services. Private arrangements are in the care of ROCK FUNERAL HOME, 1285 Ashley Blvd, New Bedford, MA 02745. For online tributes, visit our website at www.rock-funeralhome.com
