Richard “Rick” R. Baptiste, age 67, passed away in his sleep after a long battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife Doris Baptiste; daughter Kristen; sons, Keith and Kevin; stepchildren, Steven and Trisha Francis; and his grandson, Coltin Baptiste.
Born in New Bedford, a son of the late Richard and Angelina “Angie” (Almeida) Baptiste, he grew up in the city and he graduated from New Bedford Public Schools.
Rick was an employee of the Vocational High School for 20 years and the New Bedford Fire Department for five years, which according to Rick was “the Best Job Ever!” When he retired from the New Bedford Public Schools he worked as a custodian for Winslow School.
Rick had a passion for bowling and his antique cars. His 1937 Ford Coupe was his pride and joy. He was part of the Legendary street rods car club.
His visitation will be Thursday 5-8 p.m. in the ROCK FUNERAL HOME, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford. His funeral service will be Friday, August 2, 2019 at 10 a.m. in Rock Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. For online tribute/directions www.rock-funeralhome.com.
