Born in New Bedford, Richard was the son of the late Lewis A. and Ida E. Padelford. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Patricia Joyce (Silvia) Padelford.
Richard proudly served in the United States Army and built a successful career as a business owner of Cortes Country Stores as well as his real estate business, Padelford Properties. Known for his sharp wit and sense of humor, he was a jokester at heart, and his strong presence and stern values earned him the respect of all who knew him. He lived life on his own terms, with honor and integrity, and his word was his bond.
In his free time, Richard enjoyed a variety of hobbies. He was a dog lover, an avid traveler, and a passionate gambler, especially enjoying his long-standing weekly poker game with his friends. Richard had a love for fishing and notably survived a shipwreck on a commercial fishing vessel in 1972. He remained politically involved throughout his life, actively supporting the NRA and National Republican Committee.
Richard's family meant the world to him, and his legacy will live on through them. He is survived by his loving children, Pamela Allain and her husband Steven of New Bedford, and Richard Padelford of East Freetown and his partner Melanie Dupois; his cherished grandchildren, Cory Grant and his wife Karen of Churchville, NY, Bradford Padelford and his partner Dayna of Dartmouth, and Danielle Rodrigues and her husband Jordan of Mattapoisett; as well as his adored great-grandchildren, Brayden and Braxton Padelford of Dartmouth, and Mia and James Rodrigues of Mattapoisett.
