Roger G Jones

Roger G. Jones, 86, of New Bedford died Sunday, January 2, 2011 at the Blue Hills Care Center in Stoughton. He was the husband of Arsenia (Gomes) Jones and also husband of the late Lena (Pina) Jones. Born in New Bedford, son of the late Frederick B. and Sadie Alice (Carter) Jones, he was a lifelong area resident and was educated in local schools. For many years he was a construction worker at Deloid and Gomes. He was a merchant marine during World War II, and enjoyed hunting, fishing and painting.

Surviving in addition to his wife in New Bedford; two daughters, Sadie Marie Mayes of Hyde Park MA and Crystal Pina of Plymouth, MA; five sons, Manuel Santos of PA, Antonio Santos of KY, Edward Santos of Fairhaven, MA, Gordon Jones of CA, Michael Medeiros of Randolph, MA; one brother Walter Jones of New Bedford; 24 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Eileen DeJesus and Roger Jones; and brother of the late Frederick and Kenneth Jones. Private arrangements are in the care of the Brooklawn-Chausse Dumont Funeral Home.
