

Born in New Bedford, she was a daughter of the late Alfred and Mildred (Stewart) Silva. Mrs. Tavares lived in Acushnet with her husband before retiring in Florida.
She had worked for the Acushnet Company Titleist golf ball division until her retirement. Previously, she worked for Cornell Dubilier.
Rowena was a fabulous cook who loved cooking for family and friends at special gatherings and holidays. She loved music, dancing and singing karaoke with her sisters. She enjoyed playing Bingo, trips to the casinos and photography. Rowena loved the beach, especially New Smyrna Beach in Florida, and spending time at the pool. She will be greatly missed by her loving family and her beloved dogs.
Surviving in addition to her husband are her children, Steven Tavares of Long Island, NY, Lisa Alves and her husband Michael of Fairhaven and Linda Jaillet and her husband Jim of Gardner, MA; her sister Betty Jane Oswald and her husband Mike of N.C.; her grandchildren, Jessica and Joe Tavares, Tessa and Julia Jaillet, and Michael and Matthew Alves; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings, Freddie, Frank, Beverly and Elaine Silva and Norma Lemburg.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, September 21, 2022 from 9-11 a.m. with a Funeral Service at 11 a.m. in the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford. Burial in Acushnet Cemetery.
