Wayne Edward Frye, Sr.

Wayne E. Frye Sr., age 85 of Fairhaven, passed away Wednesday, August 30, 2023 at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford. He was the husband of Nanci L. (DeMoranville) Frye, to whom he had been married for 63 years.

Born in Verdunville, WV, the son of the late Hezehiah and Vangie (Thompson) Frye, he was a graduate of Logan High School and a United States Air Force Veteran.

Mr. Frye, was employed with Good Year Tire and Rubber in New Bedford for 27 years as a Premier Spreader Operator until his retirement in 1991. Wayne was also the Operator of Burt’s Apple Orchard in Acushnet for over 20 years. After retirement he continued to help at both his sons' businesses up until a few years ago.

In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by four of his children, Sherri Frye Lees and her husband Albert “Toby” of Fairhaven, Wayne E. Frye Jr, and his significant other Sarah Simmons of Fairhaven, Jon A. Frye and his wife Tammy of Acushnet, and Wendi Myers and her husband Michael of Fairhaven; a brother Naaman D. Frye and his wife Patricia of Florida; a sister Barbara K. Varney and her husband Cornie of West Virginia; nine grandchildren Dalton, Stephanie, Mali, Brittney, Paige, Hudson, Hunter, Lexi and Paris; two great-grandchildren Remmington and Quintin; and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Frye was predeceased by his son Paul D. Frye, who passed away tragically at the age of 7; a sister Beatrice Perry and brother Eldon Frye.

His Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, at 10am in the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford followed by a burial with Military Honors in Acushnet Cemetery.Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Visitation on Monday from 4 to 7pm in the funeral home.
