Jerra Lou Nuss

Jerra was born March 12, 1944, in Springfield, IL, the daughter of William and Ruth (Kern) Mullens.

Jerra worked part-time in Springfield taking care of plants, where she was known for her dedication and kind spirit. She also spent time as a caregiver and operated a dog kennel, roles that reflected her deep compassion and love for animals. Jerra especially adored cats and dogs and found joy in caring for them.

She loved staying busy, whether working in the yard, tending to things around the house, or caring for the animals that meant so much to her. In her younger years, Jerra enjoyed traveling to dog shows, proudly showing her dogs and sharing her passion with others. Her life was filled with activity, purpose, and a genuine love for the animals and people around her. 🐾

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard Nuss, Sr.; and siblings, William Mullens and Blanche Smith.

Jerra is survived by her son, Richard (Jenelyn) Nuss, Jr.; grandchildren, Richard III, and Faith J. Nuss both of Loami, IL, and Angeline D. Nuss of TX; and three great-grandchildren, Brandon Nuss of Loami, Sean Alverson of Indianapolis, IN, and Karlie Jane Ruth Creasy of Springfield.

Graveside Ceremony will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, March 16, 2026, at Sulphur Springs Cemetery in Loami, with Celebrant Judy Woerner, officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Protective League (APL) or the American Kennel Club.
