Alton Gordon Mills Jr.

Alton Gordan Mills, Jr. age 85 passed away unexpectedly Monday, May 18, 2026, in Wake Forest. Alton was born Oct. 30, 1940, in Onslow County to Alton Gordan Mills Sr. and Sarah McDaniel Mills. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Alton was a loving husband to Linda Redd Mills, and father to Eric Christian Mills and wife Tera, of Wilson NC and Mitchell Todd Mills of Clayton, NC. He was grandfather to Lauren Chandler Mills of New York, NY. He loved Chandler with his whole heart and was so proud of her. He spoke of her often with such pride. He is also survived by sisters, Betty Mills Trott, Jacksonville NC, Rita Mills VonAspern, Greensboro, NC and Gail Mills Owens & husband Lou of Greenville, NC. His sister in laws, Sandra Redd Adams, Diane Redd Williams of Maysville, NC, Sarah Redd Cruz, New York, and brother-in-law Tommy Redd, Raleigh NC.

Alton graduated White Oak High School and attended Chowan College.

Alton was a founder and owner of Ole Carolana Group in Wilson, NC.

For over 40 years, Alton was a trusted and highly respected financial and life insurance agent. Alton has provided benefits for families in eastern and central North Carolina. Alton spent decades building a legacy defined by integrity, compassion, and unwavering commitment to protecting local families. Being an agent was never just about policies or paperwork. It was about offering peace of mind, holding hands during life’s most difficult moments and treating every client like an extension of his own family. He helped generations of client’s plan for the future, leaving a sense of security and protection. He earned many distinguished awards as an agent. The Top Producer, Million Dollar Round Table, and the President’s Club.

Alton had a great work ethic and a great love for fishing. He always made time for sneaking away fishing with his sons. He spent many hours on the rivers and lakes! He loved in-shore fishing!

Alton’s service will be Friday, May 29th, 2026, at Cotten Funeral Home in New Bern, NC. Visitation from 1:00-2:00 pm and service at 2:00 pm. He will be laid to rest in a private interment at Greenleaf Memorial Park, New Bern.
