Barbara Ann Smith Turnage

A proud graduate of J.T. Barber High School, Class of 1968, Barbara dedicated much of her career to Carolina Telephone Company, from which she later retired. In her retirement, she remained deeply involved in her community through her volunteer work with the Craven County Senior Center. Barbara found joy in helping others, often driving local seniors to grocery stores, medical appointments, and to run errands. Her compassion and generosity touched the lives of many.

In her spare time, Barbara enjoyed reading and had a fondness for word search puzzles, which brought her quiet comfort and joy.

Barbara was preceded in death by her father, Elijah Smith Sr.; her sisters, Connie Bell, Nancy Smith, and Janet Bryant; and her brothers-in-law, Mancy and Dennis.

She is survived by her loving mother, Louidella Smith; her devoted daughter, Lakeida Smith; brothers, Eli Smith Jr., Demetrias Smith, and Quamaine Smith; sisters, Sonja Brockington (Horace), Beverly Maisonet, and Luvinia Mack (Gregory); grandchildren, Jailen, Alyscea, Alexias, and Alanna; and four cherished great-grandchildren and aunt Emma Rogers. Her memory will also live on in the hearts of extended family and friends who knew and loved her.

Private services will be held.
