
Barbara Abernethy Walters, 89 of New Bern, died November 28, 2012 at CarolinaEast Medical Center.
She was born November 11, 1923 and served our country during World War II at Republic Aviation on Long Island. Born in Amityville, Long Island, she was the first girl at Amityville High School allowed to take mechanical drawing which served her later. After receiving Army drafting training, she was in charge of twenty plus draftsmen, working on the P-47 Thurnderbolt Fighter Plane. She had many hobbies, among them, gardening, and she was an avid bridge player.
Barbara is survived by her husband Gordon, two daughters, Deborah Robertaccio of Hampton Bay, Long Island; Jodie Warren of Yaphank, Long Island; her grandchildren, Jennifer Koster of Bloomsberg, PA; Kristen Groppe of Center Moriches, Long Island; Jon Robertaccio, Jillian Robertaccio, both of Yaphank, Long Island; Jessica Portz of Stewardstown, PA; and Kimberly Warren of Middle Island, Long Island; and 11 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, December 8, 2012 at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. William Hawkins officiating.
