Bonnie was 65 years old.
Born on June 5th, 1959, in New Prague, MN, Bonnie was the daughter of Richard Francis Sirek and Eleanor Ann Svoboda. She embraced the nickname Bonnie which became a term of endearment among her family and friends. Bonnie enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1977 making significant contributions through her nearly two-decade career as an administrative legal clerk. She paved the way for future generations of women in the military, demonstrating resilience and dedication to service until her retirement in 1995.
Following her military career, Bonnie continued serving her country, dedicating 20 years to the Department of Defense as a government employee. Her commitment to public service was matched only by her steadfast faith; she was a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Havelock for 42 years, where she offered her time and support to others in her community.
Bonnie is survived by her ex-husband, Dwayne Maurice Whiting, with whom she maintained a strong, devoted friendship and co-parenting relationship, demonstrating the power of love and compassion even after divorce. She leaves behind her son, Trelain Allen Whiting, his wife, Jessica Leigh Whiting, and her son, Kevin Lamont Whiting. Her grandchildren Noah, Joshua, and Raquel were her pride and joy, and she treasured the moment spent with them.
A passionate dog lover, Bonnie enjoyed spending time with her beloved dogs, Maji and Gideon. She enjoyed crafting with her friends, gardening, and creating a warm, nurturing home for her family. She was the best cheerleader to her grandson Noah at every soccer game and enjoyed listening to her grandson Josh sing in the high school chorus. She enjoyed baking with her granddaughter Raquel. Additionally, she cherished the summers spent back in Minnesota with her siblings- Patricia, Sandra, Barbara, Jacob, Thomas, Emil, William, and Jerry-creating lifelong memories and strengthening family bonds.
Bonnie's unwavering support for others, strong faith, and vibrant spirit will be profoundly missed by all who knew her. Her life will be celebrated on September 28th from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM at Cotten Funeral Home of New Bern, North Carolina. Where friends and family will gather, visit, and honor her memory.
