He is survived by four children, Jennifer Caraway of the home, Kimberly Weitzel (Mike) of Ohio, Bruce Lee Smith, II of Tuscarora, and Beverly Suggs of Greenville; two brothers, Payne Smith and Preston Smith of Tuscarora; two sisters, Joyce Mannings of Vanceboro and Dorothy Anderson of Jacksonville; eight grandchildren, five great grandchildren and his brothers and sisters of the fire department.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 2nd at No. 9 Township Fire & Rescue, 3783 HWY 55 West, New Bern which will be followed by a memorial service beginning at 2 p.m. with Fire Department Chaplain, Rev. Lee Kirkman officiating. He will then be laid to rest at Spring Garden Cemetery with military and fire department honors.
