Corey loved his music, whether he was playing drums, guitar or just listening to his favorite songs while working.
His children Kaylee and Noah were the great loves of his life. He was a devoted father, a loyal friend and never met a stranger. Corey had a winning smile and a great sense of humor.
He is survived by his mother Mary E. Ferguson of New Bern, NC., his brother Jason A. Ferguson of Sacramento, CA., his sister Kathy A. Vogel of Whitesboro, NY., an uncle Rod Slater of Santa Rosa, CA. and Corey’s children Kaylee Cahoon and Noah Slater of Belhaven, NC. He is also survived by numerous other aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
He will be dearly missed by his fiancée Ramarie Acker of Ernul, NC. who was a devoted and loving caregiver at the end of his life.
He is predeceased by his father John James Slater of Wilmington, NY., his paternal grandfather Carson Slater of Wilmington, NY., his paternal grandmother Sybil Slater who passed prior to his birth, and was subsequently followed by a second wife to Carson and grandmother to Corey, Teresa (LaShomb) Slater of Wilmington NY. and his maternal grandfather Lynn S. Ferguson and maternal grandmother Dorothy E. Ferguson of Keeseville, NY.
Corey was fortunate to have good friends, the best among them were Allen and Eugene. Allen shared his love for music, and Eugene was like a big brother to Corey.
Sincere thanks to all of Craven County Hospice who participated in Corey’s care and especially to nurse Joy Holloway who made the difficulty of his last days more bearable with her kindness and caring presence. Special thanks to Dr. Fisher who went above and beyond to help Corey be more comfortable during his final hours.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations in his name to the American Cancer Society as Corey was taken rather suddenly after diagnosis by metastatic colon cancer.
We request you respect the privacy of the family during this difficult time.
