

Doris Bennett Brinson Maple “Dottie,” born in Beaufort, NC on November 30, 1929, died Tuesday, November 27, 2012.
Dottie was raised in New Bern, attended Mars Hill College and graduated from East Carolina State Teacher’s College. She was married for 60 years to William Robert “Bob” Maple and during their early years lived in New Bern, Haleyville, AL, Harrison, AR, Brewton, AL, and Williamston, NC. She was an American History teacher and was active in the Martin County Community Theater. Upon retiring and returning to New Bern, she was active as a docent for the Attmore Oliver House, Coast Guard Auxillary and the “9 Holers” at Quaker Neck Golf and Country Club. She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church.
Dottie is survived by her husband, Bob, daughters, Mary M. Schroeder (Don) of Foley, AL; Elizabeth “Betty” M. Gomez (Sergio) of Charlotte, NC; one son, William R. “Bobby” Maple, Jr. (Diane) of New Bern; granddaughters, Elizabeth C. Shroeder of Washington, DC; Amanda I. Gomez of Charlotte; three step-children, six great-grandchildren, three sisters, Helen Henshaw, Catherine Bender and Patsy Burwell (John), a brother in-law, Bennie Howard and a sister in-law, Peg Maple, numerous nieces and nephews, her good friend, Donna Warner and her dedicated caregivers, Lynn, Joanie and Angela.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm Saturday, December 1, 2012 at Centenary United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends following the service.
