Florence was the daughter of Irish immigrants who came to America and settled in New York City. At the age of two her family moved to Long Beach, N.Y. where she lived until retiring to Florida in 1976. More recently she resided at The Courtyards at Berne Village and was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Emerson Young, and is survived by their five daughters: Pamela Y. Scott (P.D.), of New Bern, Cynthia Y. Bourque, of Buffalo, N.Y., Ellen E. Cushing (Gary), of N. Chelmsford, MA, Margaret Y. Mason, (Skip), of Gilbert, AZ, and Susan Y. Welborn (Brian), of Burlington, N.C. She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Florence's life will be held at Centenary United Methodist Church in New Bern on July 31, at 10 a.m.
