Flora Georgelis Bartholomew

She was born in Boston, MA, and was raised in Milford, NH. After graduation from high school she moved to New Bern in 1950. She began working at Carolina Telephone where she met her husband. She later worked at Coastal Children’s Clinic and volunteered at Craven County Board of Elections. Flo is preceded in death by her husband, Emmitte Sidney Bartholomew, Jr., and her parents, Hercules George Georgelis of Potamia, Greece and Eva Leefman Georgelis of the Dutch West Indies; her brother, Hercules George Georgelis and her sister, Carol Barone.

She is survived by her son, James Allen Bartholomew (Judy White) of New Bern; three daughters, Carolyn Diane Brown (Ed) of Washington, NC; Joyce B. Burdon (Bill) of Virginia Beach, VA; Brenda B. Parker (Johnny) of New Bern; her grandchildren, Aaron Burdon, Nicole Hughes, Kelly Gardner, Matthew Parker, John Louis Neuman and Sydnee Bartholomew; one great-granddaughter, Claire Gardner and her beloved cat, Lillie Mae.

She was a member of Beech Grove United Methodist Church.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 pm Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at Cotten Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at Beech Grove UMC. Inurnment will follow at Greenleaf Memorial Park.
