Rich was a long-time member of the Sports Car Club of America and the Washington DC Region. He enjoyed racing his Spec Racer Ford, instructing at the Region’s competition schools, and later serving as a steward. His love for motorsports was matched by his dedication to helping others in the sport, leaving behind a legacy of camaraderie and mentoring.
Rich was also proud of his time with the Fairfax County Police Department, having graduated from the Fairfax County Police Academy and serving as an Auxiliary Police Officer. His sense of service to others extended beyond the racetrack, and he was always eager to give back to his community. After moving to New Bern, Rich enjoyed being able to volunteer for the New Bern Police Department.
In March 2010, Rich retired from Data Systems Analysts in Virginia and moved to New Bern, NC, with his wife Gayle, where they enjoyed their new home and well-deserved retirement.
Rich is survived by his loving wife Gayle, son Andrew “Drew”, brother Bruce, sister Elizabeth Toogood (Kenneth), brother-in-law Bill Schaefer, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Ann, and his sisters Janice and Patricia.
Rich will be remembered for his dedication to his passions, his generosity of spirit, and the love he had for his family and friends. He touched many lives, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who knew him.
Rest in peace, Rich. Your legacy lives on in the hearts of those you loved and who loved you in return.
