He served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam Era. He was past master of Grantham Lodge No. 725 and he was a member of New Bern Scottish Rite and Sudan Shriners.
He attended New Bern High School.
He is survived by two sons, Guy Henderson Hawkins, Jr. of New Bern; Joseph William Hawkins of Jamesville; one daughter, Tina Marie Hawkins Taylor of Cove City; one brother, Johnnie Travis Hawkins of New Bern; one sister, Cynthia Norris of New Bern; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, November 11, 2012 at Cotten Chapel. Burial, with Masonic rites will follow at Greenleaf Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 pm Saturday, November 10, 2012 at the funeral home.
