He was born on May 31, 1929 in Lenoir County. James spent 35 years with Minges Bottling Group, Pepsi-Cola. Following his retirement with Pepsi, James worked with Walmart of New Bern for 12 years. He was a beloved husband to his wife, Rachel Darden Hill, and a devoted father to his children.
He is survived by two sons, James G. Hill and wife Janet of New Bern and Darrell Scott Hill of Greene County; one daughter, Lisa Hill DelGuercio and husband Joseph of LaGrange; two sisters, Ruth Ann Bland and husband Marshall of Kinston and Joyce Brown of Roanoke Rapids, VA; one great-grandson, Cameron McSorley of New Bern; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, January 11, 2018 at Cotten Funeral Home. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00 pm. Burial will follow the service at New Bern Memorial Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in James’ name may be made to SPCA of Craven County (Colonial Capital Humane Society).
