James (Jimmie) Kitsler Nelson, 81, of Goldsboro, died on November 22, 2023, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on December 17, 1941, to the late Leslie and Lillian Nelson. He grew up in Goldsboro and graduated from Goldsboro High School in 1960. He worked for A&P grocery for many years and later retired from Southco Distributing Company. He was an avid member of a local classic car club and enjoyed getting together with his car club buddies. Jimmie loved the outdoors and could be seen most days walking the fields near his home. He enjoyed hiking in the mountains while on numerous trips he took with the family. Jimmie loved military airplanes, classic cars, bird watching, Southern gospel and the UNC Tarheels. But most of all he loved his God. His favorite verse was John 3:16. He raised all his family with the knowledge of Jesus and the Lord shines in each and every member of his family. He was truly at his happiest surrounded by his family, holding the babies and eating all the good food. He was preceded in death by his father, mother and all 9 brothers and sisters. He is survived by his daughters, Amy (Paul) Dill, Emily (Will) Salter and Jami (Tony) Clemmons. He was a beloved Papa to 8 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Billy Graham said “No, I don’t know the future, but I do know this! The best is yet to be. Heaven awaits us and will be far, far more glorious than ANYTHING we can ever imagine!”
