He was a veteran Rocky Mount Police Officer and he was a retired Rocky Mount Firefighter.
He is survived by two sons, Jacob Wade Upchurch of Zebulon; James Wiley Upchurch, III of Rocky Mount; one brother, Michael Upchurch of Austin, TX; one sister, Belinda Barnhill of New Bern; and two grandchildren.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
