He graduated from West Craven High School in 1996 and was employed with Maverick Industries as an industrial electrician. Jody loved his job, the Carolina Tarheels, the Carolina Panthers and Dale Earnhardt, Jr.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents Mr. and Mrs. A.B. Collins and Mr. and Mrs. Oswald Sawyer, all of New Bern.
He is survived by his mother Cindy Collins Sawyer of New Bern; father Danny Eugene Sawyer of New Bern; aunts and uncles Mr. and Mrs. Al Collins of New Bern, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Collins of Rolla, Missouri, Mr. and Mrs. Shadrack Small of Rockwell, NC, Beverly Collins of Vanceboro, NC, and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lee Sawyer of Fort White, Florida; and many cousins and childhood friends.
Funeral service will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, June 16 at Cotten Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. prior to the service. A graveside service will be Friday, June 17 at 10:00 a.m. at Gaskins Family Cemetery on Branch Canal Road.
