Mr. G was my football coach and Driver’s Ed in the car teacher. One day there was three of us being taught on the road with Mr. G and the girl who was in the car, was having a tough day. Mr. G with a little sarcasm said to her as we approached the corner of Happ and Winnetka going north, “Sue if you drive up on the curb, I will buy you a Chocolate shake at DQ!!!” Darn if she didn’t do it. Of course no shake was purchased. The two of us in the back cracked up!!! Thank you for many memories Coach!!!

He was one of my football coaches at NTW!  Sorry for your loss. 

It was John who saved me, in a sense, when he found my learning disability which went undiagnosed until he was my drivers ed teacher.  That was in 1966.


John was a wonderful teacher. He taught me to drive in the snow forcing me into skids that scared me but ultimately made me a better driver. May his memory be a blessing.

Was a Mgr/statistician back in 76’ at ntw (his high school)) for his sophomore team.   When we met for 1st time, he said, he knew my older sister and had her in drivers Ed and thought he did not pass her.  Actually looked up her grade and said he was mistaken, it was another female that he flunked in her class.  And that other person happen  to be my sister’s best friend!

Dear Mrs Galbraith,
I just wanted you to know what a tremendously positive influence coach Galbraith has had and will continue to have in my life.
I played football for him at NTW in 71 and 72. As hard as he could be on players when mistakes were made, he was equally enthusiastic when a good play was made.
Even though he never knew this, he inspired me to play in college and 5 years of semi-pro football. I would not have gone to college without his inspiration.
He taught me the benefits of working hard, focusing and trying to positively influence others.
Thank you for sharing him with all the young men he coached.

John was my uncle and I and have some many great memories. He had such a great sense of humor and love of his family.  His love of basketball was amazing and inspiring to me.  He told me hubie brown was his favorite coach  and I always rememberd that…and living in Glenview I met so many that had John as a drivers Ed teacher at new trier and the all never forgot him.. that is how he was… james boettcher   ISU alum
