A US army air corps veteran and lifelong general handyman, John was born Nov 26, 1921 in Aspinwall, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Aspinwall high school in 1939, and married the love of his life, in 1942. John has been a beloved resident of New Bern for five years, and was known for his love of dogs, children, and antique vehicles.
He is survived by his wife of almost 80 years, Jean Margaret Smith Humes, five children, Karin Humes Pearson, John Robert Humes, Jr., Elizabeth Humes Rupert, Susan Jane Humes, and Jeffrey Allen Humes, five grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.
He will be sorely missed for his sense of humor and love of life. Graveside service will be held at the family's convenience
