

Kathleen was born in Brooklyn, New York to Lily and Martin Roche, and upon their passing when she was 6 months old was lovingly adopted by her mother’s sister Catherine and Peter McCabe. She had two brothers, Vincent (Buddy) and Peter, and a surviving sister, Marion Collins Ariemma.
She married Michael Richard Staniewicz on January 31, 1942, in Beacon, New York. They had six children – Michael (Born 1942), Matthew (born 1945), Mary (born 1946), as well as the surviving Michol (born 1948), Kathleen (born 1956), and Julius (born 1958). Kathleen also enjoyed the love of her 12 grandchildren Michael, Kate, Adrienne, Troy, Leo, Sara, Ali, Andrew, Maureen, Matthew, Scott, and Elizabeth, as well as her 13 great-grandchildren.
She attended the St. Francis nursing school in Poughkeepsie, New York, graduating in 1939. In addition to raising a family, she spent a career attending to the most afflicted war veterans on the quadriplegic ward of the Veterans Admininistration hospital at Castle Point, NY, retiring in 1976.
She is a decades-long member of the third order of St. Francis, attending to the needy wherever she found herself, which included New York, Hawaii, Florida and North Carolina.
A Memorial Mass will be held at Annunciation Catholic Church in Havelock NC, on Wednesday June 25, 2014 at 1:00 PM
