

Leland N. Jones, 86, of Reelsboro, passed away on Monday, March 7, 2016 at his home with his loving family by his side. Born and raised in Bridgeton, he joined the U.S. Navy at age 17 and served for 26 years spanning World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. During his tenure with the Navy, he served as a Frogman with the Underwater Demolition Team 21 (UDT) for 15 years and finished his service as a Master Chief Mess Specialist. He recieved numerous awards during his career, including the Navy Achievement Medal. Following his service to our country, he spent over 30 years managing New Bern Auto Supply. In his spare time he enjoyed gardening, playing horseshoes and spending time with his family, to whom he was very devoted.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Cotten Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor David McCants officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Martha S. Jones of the home; his son, David L. Jones and wife Johnette; his daughter, Debra J. Watson and husband Rodney; four grandsons, Mark Watson, Bryan Watson, Nathaniel Jones and Aaron Watson; and two great granddaughters, Rylie Watson and Autumn Jones.
