It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Linda Sue Whitley on March 9, 2025, following a brief battle with cancer. Born October 25, 1944, Sue was the daughter to Robert and Marie Dunn Whitley of New Bern, NC.
Sue graduated from New Bern High School and continued her education at East Carolina University, earning her degree in Special Education. She then went on to receive a Master’s Degree in Special Education. She moved to Raleigh, NC, teaching children with special needs at J. Y. Joyner and Brooks Elementary. Sue touched many young lives in those classrooms.
Upon leaving her teaching career, Sue obtained her Real Estate Broker License. She became well respected for her devotion to her clients and moved forward to managing properties for quite a number of investors. She was dogmatic in securing, maintaining, and managing these properties. After retirement in 2024, Sue moved back to her family’s home place in Olympia, NC.
When Sue made a friend, it was for life. She maintained friendships from Kindergarten to college, including her roommate, whose three sons called her “Aunt Sue”. She will be greatly missed by all for her dedication to family, intense work ethic, and quick wit. She is survived by numerous cousins, including Ziji Scott, who traveled from her home in New York state to care for and comfort Sue in her final days at home.
A celebration of life will be held at the family home, 3650 HWY 55 E, New Bern NC, on April 10th at 11am. Family and friends are welcome to attend to honor and celebrate Sue’s life.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Colonial Capital Humane Society, 1860 Old Airport Rd. New Bern NC.
