Margaret Cotton Foote

She is preceded in death by her parents, Worth B., Sr. and Alice Cotton, her first husband, George N. Harriss III, brothers, David L. Cotton, and Worth B. Cotton Jr.

Margaret is survived by her husband, Allen R. Foote; son, Rev. David J. Harriss (Marisol) of Yuma, AZ; daughters, Jane Harriss Naus (Kevin) and Ann Harriss Holland, both of Ayden, NC; step-daughters, Kim Foote Buck (Frankie) of Vanceboro, NC, and Darci Foote Kelly (Jonathan) of Franklin, VA; brothers, Solon F. Cotton (Anita) of Monroe, NC, Paul F. Cotton (Lorraine) of Wilmington, NC; grandchildren, Aaron D. Holland of Ayden, NC, Francisco J. Harriss and Maya C. Harriss, both of Yuma, AZ; and step-grandchildren, Madison Kelly of Charlotte NC, Rebecca Buck Morton (David) of Luray, VA, and Benjamin Buck (Theresa) of Magnolia, DE.

Margaret was always an active member in the United Methodist Church. Though always an active member of the United Methodist Church, Margaret did not receive her calling into the ministry until later in life. She served several churches during her time in the ministry in both Sampson County, and Craven County. The last appointment she served was at Rhems UMC & Beach Grove UMC, from where she retired.

Margaret had a compassionate heart. It was this compassion that led her to work for the Department of Mental Health in Cumberland County. She also served on the Board of Directors for the Department of Mental Health in Cumberland County. She received her Bachelor's Degree in Christian Education from Greensboro College, and later attended the School of Divinity at Duke University. She changed many lives during her life. She also enjoyed cooking and sewing, and you would often find her singing a tune while enjoying her time in the kitchen.

A memorial service will be held at 11am, on April 2, at Beech Grove United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 5-7pm on April 1, at Beech Grove UMC.
