Margaret Fields Hackney

Margaret Fields Hackney, age 97, of New Bern, North Carolina passed away on Wednesday, January 26, 2022. She enjoyed working with her fellow employees and serving the public at the Craven County Tax Department for many years. She also loved working as a Tour Guide at Tryon Palace until her retirement at the age of 83.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Jack W. Hackney. She is survived by her three children, Kathy Smith (George) of Huddleston, Va., Johnny Hackney (Norma Harvey) of New Bern, and David Hackney (Sherri) of Vanceboro; four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, January 28, 2022 at Juniper Chapel F.W.B. Church, 655 Piney Neck Road, Vanceboro, NC 28586. Margaret will be laid to rest at Buffalo Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Sanford, NC on Saturday, February 5, 2022.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be made in Margaret's name to the National League of POW/MIA Families, 5673 Columbia Pike, Suite 100, Falls Church, VA 22041.
