Early Monday morning, February 27th, Marie Collier of New Bern, fell into an eternal dream at the age of 80. Many know her from the company, Collier Roofing, which she started almost 50 years ago. Known for her extraordinary kindness she touched the lives of many through her journey across the US with her late husband Walter Collier Jr during their 52 years of marriage. Her endeavor to help others started when she graduated Cambridge University with several degrees while completing clinical studies at the Nottingham University Hospital as an RN. Following her true love to the US she spread her kindness in New Mexico, California, Connecticut, Florida, and finally North Carolina. During her time in California, she had her late daughter Sheran Collier Wheeler.
She is survived by her son Ian Boyd Collier, a granddaughter Lindsay Collier Hathaway, grandson-in-law Jesse Trocchia Hathaway, and a Great Grandson Vincent Leon Hathaway.
Born at home to Thomas Lee and Daisy Schooling on July 18th, 1942 during an air raid in Essex England during WWII. She was their first born and only daughter followed by eight brothers with whom she loved. She became a skilled seamstress and skilled member of the Girl Guides Association in her youth. With 80 years of knowledge and memories she was a treasure like no other. She used her time and resources to save countless lives from homelessness, addiction, and from becoming orphans. Her loss is deeply felt by all who knew her.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 4th at Cotten Funeral Home for any that would like to pay their respects. Condolences and flowers may be sent to 1105 Broad Creek Road of New Bern, NC 28560.
