Michael Brook Jackling died on June 28, 2025 at his home in Trent Woods, North Carolina. Michael was 85 years old. He was born on October 6, 1939 in New York City to Sir Roger William Jackling and Lady Joan Tustin Jackling. The son of a diplomat, Michael grew up in several countries and attended Wellington College in the village of Crowthorne in England. He then permanently moved to the United States, where he began a long career in the automobile industry, one of his many passions. Over the course of his career, he worked as an executive at British Leyland Motor Corporation, Jaguar Cars, BMW of North America, Sterling USA, and Ferrari North America.
Always active and adventurous, Michael pursued a myriad of hobbies. A member of the New York Yacht Club, his greatest love was sailing, which took him on trips from Long Island Sound to the Baltic Sea. Michael met his wife, Betty Jo, on one such trip to Nantucket, and together they sailed on Michael’s beloved boat, Goblin II, every summer. When not sailing, Michael could be found riding his motorcycles, skiing, scuba diving, or hunting. A skillful raconteur with a sharp wit, Michael also delighted in the company of his family members and many friends.
Michael is survived by his wife of 48 years, Betty Jo Jackling, their daughter, Brook Jackling DeVeas and her husband Charles DeVeas, and grandsons Henry and George. He is also survived by his brother, Sir Roger Tustin Jackling.
Cotten Funeral Home is honored to serve the family and friends of Michael Brook Jackling.
