

Michael was born on April 7, 1942, in Conway, South Carolina, to the late Aubrey Johnson and Reba Fowler Johnson. He was a graduate of New Bern High School, Class of 1960. Michael continued his education at The Citadel and later at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Baruch College in New York City, where he earned advanced degrees in finance and accounting.
Michael proudly served his country in the United States Navy submarine service, both on active duty and in the reserves, for a total of 20 years. Following his military service, he enjoyed a long and distinguished career as a Certified Public Accountant in New York, practicing for over 40 years.
Michael is survived by his sister, Sandee Johnson Inabinet, and her husband, Joe Inabinet, along with a large and loving extended family.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate nurses and physicians of the Critical Care Unit at Mount Sinai West Hospital in New York City, as well as to the many friends in New York, Montreal, and New Bern for their kindness, support, and care during this time.
A celebration of Michael's life will be held on Tuesday, February 24, 2026 at 2:00 pm at Cotten Funeral Home with a reception to follow.
A private burial with Military Honors will be held at Greenleaf Memorial Park will be held at an earlier time.
