Therion Edward Hoell, with whom she shared 46 years of marriage. She was the daughter of the late
Charlie King and Sophie R. King.
Mildred was a native North Carolinian living 44 years in New Bern prior to her relocation to
Pennsylvania. She had resided at Pocono Lutheran Village in East Stroudsburg, PA since 2004.
A Methodist since the age of 13, Mildred was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in New Bern
and an affiliate member of Stroudsburg United Methodist Church in Stroudsburg, PA. Throughout her
life she attended church and Bible studies regularly, was an active member and past president of the
United Methodist Women, served on numerous church committees, and was secretary of her Sunday
school class for 25 years. Millie loved to help others and tried to do at least one good deed every day.
A homemaker for most of her life, she worked 9 years in the cafeterias of Grover C. Fields and H. J.
MacDonald Middle Schools. Among the things she missed most about living in North Carolina were
Southern fried chicken, collard greens, cornbread, and the ability to cook for those she loved.
Although she missed North Carolina and living in her own home, she made the adjustment to her home
in Pennsylvania with grace. She was known in her residence as the “Southern Belle,” a term she did not
fully appreciate, but one that best describes this simple woman who deeply loved her family, friends,
and her Lord.
Mildred is survived by her daughter, Krista H. Montgomery, and son‐in‐law David Montgomery, Jr. of
Stroudsburg, PA, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Charles E.
Hoell, five brothers and four sisters.
Services will be held at the Lakeside Chapel at Greenleaf Memorial Park, New Bern, NC on Saturday,
October 15 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Charlene Pierce Guider officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may
be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, New Bern, NC or the Stroudsburg United Methodist
Church Elevator Fund, Stroudsburg, PA.
