She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Douglas Quentin Mehne; Son, Douglas Eugene Mehne, his wife Cara of Winchester, MA. ; Daughter, Elizabeth Anne Connell, her husband Patrick of New Bern; and their grandchildren; Cory Connell, Leah Connell, Kathleen Mehne, Caroline Mehne, Lilian Mehne.
Nancy was born in White Plains NY August 3, 1933. Nancy and Doug fell in love during their junior year of high school in White Plains, NY. They were very happily married in 1957 and celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary last summer. On their way to their honeymoon in Maine, they stopped in Westerly RI and upon seeing the beautiful ocean view, decided to honey moon right in Westerly. A few years later in 1970, they moved to Westerly and raised their family. Nancy was a loving mother to Lisa and Doug finding great pride in their accomplishments. Nancy worked as an office administrator in a local doctors office.
Nancy lived life fully and was deeply passionate about her family and friends. Nancy along with her husband enjoyed bowling, bridge and golfing with their friends during their many years in Westerly, RI, Sunset Beach, NC and most recently New Bern NC. Together they traveled to Europe and South America and loved their family trips to Block Island. Nancy loved the ocean and many family memories were made at the beach or on Doug’s sailboat. Nancy was also creative and her gift with crafting have left so many of us with family keepsakes.
Nancy found great joy in being a grandma, Nana. Lisa’s children, Cory and Leah, luckily lived nearby and had the joys of building deep connections and memories as children and young adults. Doug and Cara have three daughters, Kate, Caroline and Lilian and loved the time on Block Island and crafting or playing games with Nana. She was always fun and easy to engage with the children, with loving care, patience and pride. Her legacy and spirit will continue on as they build their lives.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00am Saturday, April 7, 2018 at Christ Episcopal Church.
