Oscar was a very loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. A native of Craven County, he worked hard as a route salesman for the last 33 years and enjoyed serving the public. He enjoyed hunting with his family.
Oscar is survived by his wife, Nellie Jones Smithwick, three sons, Charles Hyatt Smithwick of Ernul; Buddy Smithwick and fiance’ Jennifer Yusko, and Curtis Jones and wife Megan, all of New Bern; two daughters, Misty Cuthrell and fiance’ Ross Martin of New Bern; Tammy Lebeau of Carolina Pines; nine grandchildren, Katherine, Cody and Christina Smith, McKenzie and Collin Jones, Sylus Antwine, Chasity and Sharlotte Smithwick and Natalie Cluck, and two sisters, Vivian Smithwick of New Bern; and Margarett Blackburn of Tennessee.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 to 2:00 pm, followed by the funeral service at 2:00 pm Saturday, February 25, 2012 at Faith Free Will Baptist Church, 250 Sandhill Road, New Bern, NC 28560. Burial will follow at New Bern Memorial Cemetery.
