Richard Kenneth Burfeind

BURFEIND Richard (Ken), age 65 of New Bern, NC. died peacefully on Saturday February 24, 2024 at UNC Hospital, Chapel Hill, NC. with his wife by his side. Born in Mt. Kisco, NY, Ken most recently resided in New Bern, NC. while previously living in Midland Park, NJ. for 34 years. Ken was a graduate of Pleasantville High School, Plesantville, NY. and held a bachelor's degree from Lynchburg College, Lynchburg, VA. Before his retirement, Ken had a 44 year career in sales, most notably with Pepsi Bottling Group and New Balance of North Jersey. Ken had a talent of making those around him laugh with his unique sense of humor. He was an avid golfer, who also enjoyed gardening, fishing, kayaking, and cooking. Ken was very active with a love for running, lifting, and other sports such as basketball and baseball. He spent years officiating high school volleyball, basketball, and track and field. Surviving are his loving wife Casey (Verhulst) Burfeind, his two adoring daughters, Nicole Burfeind of King of Prussia, PA, Sara Burfeind and her husband Kyle Smith of Somerset, NJ, and his granddaughter Emma Smith. Also surviving are his mother Nancy Burfeind of New Bern, NC, sister Amy Marrazzo of Neenah, WI, brother Stan Burfeind and his wife Gail of Bethlehem, PA, along with six nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father Richard Burfeind in 2012 . Celebration of life will be held at 702 Tarragon Ct, New Bern, NC on Saturday, March 16th from 1 - 4 pm. A North Jersey celebration to follow in April (date TBD) In lieu of flowers a donation could be made to The American Heart Association or SECU Family House at UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill, NC.
