

Robert Nelson Haskins Sr., age 83, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, April 3rd, surrounded by his loving family. Robert, better known as Black Cloud, was born on December 7th, 1932 to William and Bessie Haskins. Robert was preceded in death by both of his parents, his sister Doris Vinci, and his son Tony Haskins. He is survived by his beautiful, caring wife, Dera Jean Haskins; their sons: Gil Haskins and wife Sandra Haskins, Robbie Haskins; and daughter, Donna Haskins Medford and husband David Medford. He has 5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Robert blessed many with his sincere smile and infectious belly laugh. He showed his family what it meant to be a husband, father, and grandfather. Robert had a special bond with all of his children, teaching them to hunt, fish, and even reload their own shotgun shells. He taught them infinite valuable lessons that will live through family generations forever. Robert's family will carry him in their hearts for all of their lives.
Robert joined the US Army and served as a Sergeant here and abroad in Germany. He loved working as a cannoneer. His service lived on through his grandson, William Haskins Jr. who also served in the US Army and retired after 21 years. After Robert's service, he worked at Cherry Point as an aircraft electrical inspector where he touched the hearts of many and always got the job done. After leaving Cherry Point, Robert also worked as a certified electrician.
A viewing will be held at Cotten Funeral home on Thursday, April 7th at 6pm followed by a funeral service at 7pm. The burial will be held at Greenleaf Memorial on Friday, April 8th at 10am at the Lakeside Chapel.
