Robert Alan Koenig

Dr. Robert Alan Koenig, 70, of New Bern, NC passed away peacefully on September 8th 2022 with his loving wife, Yingqin Zhao, by his side. Robert was born in Baltimore, Maryland on December 5th 1951 to parents Norma and Donald Lewis. He was a graduate of Northwestern Senior High of Hyattsville, MD, class of 1969. He graduated from the University of Hawaii with a Master’s in Education, and continued his education at the Nova Southeastern University, where he received his Doctorate in Educational Leadership. Robert had a passion for teaching and went on to pursue a lifelong career as an educator, fulfilling various roles.

Robert enjoyed writing and performing music. He was a talented saxophone and flute player who was proud of his YouTube channel listed under “elfstone8402”. Robert had a passion for history and ancestry, visiting many historic battlefields and landmarks throughout his lifetime. He was a lover of the ocean and took every opportunity to travel. He enjoyed seeing the world beside his wife, Yingqin Zhao and their children whenever possible.

Robert is survived by his wife, Yingqin Zhao; his children, Paul Koenig, David Koenig, Christopher Koenig, Kiersten (Koenig) Carr; his step children, Xuanyue “Raven” Xie and Xie “Christopher” Xie; his grandchildren, Samantha Carr, Amelia Carr, Brody Carr, Cameron Carr and his sisters, Donna Lewis and Gloria Simpson. Robert was predeceased by his mother Norma J. Lewis and father Donald E. Lewis.
