It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ruby Ebron Wilmoth. Ruby passed away at her home on Saturday, February 22, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. She was born in Craven County, North Carolina on December 8, 1938, to the late Floyd William Ebron, Sr. and Lena Rowe Ebron.
Since Ruby's late husband, James V. Wilmoth, was a Marine Corps veteran, they traveled and moved often, from coast to coast. After moving back home, Ruby provided in-home daycare for small babies until they started school, and some even after beginning school. She was lovingly called "Aunt Ruby" by all of them. Ruby was known for being a good cook, which her family enjoyed for many, many years. Up until a week ago, you could find her in Walmart most any time, buying what she needed to go home and cook. Ruby was a lifelong member of Croatan Free Will Baptist Church and attended service as long as she was able.
Ruby is survived by her two sons, Dwain Allen Wilmoth and Kenneth Brian Wilmoth, both of New Bern, 3 granddaughters, Michelle W. Whitaker, and husband Mark, Angela W. Jones, and husband Carlton and Amy W. Jones, and husband Jack, one grandson, Robert Wilmoth, along with 14 great grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Sammy E. Ebron, and wife Sharon, 2 sisters, Joyce E. Mathis, and Shelbie E. Hardison, and husband, Rick, sister-in-law, Mary Lou Ebron, her niece, Trena H. Edwards, whom she referred to as her "daughter", and great niece, Shelbie Rose Edwards, whom she referred to as her "baby", having taken care of both of them in her in-home daycare and until her death, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James V. Wilmoth, her parents, Floyd and Lena Ebron, her grandson, Dusty Brian Wilmoth, her sister, Mildred E. Bannister, her brothers, Floyd William Ebron, Jr., and Thomas Jackson Ebron, and her nephew, Neil Thomas Ebron.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 25, 2025 at Croatan Free Will Baptist Church with Harry Bryan officiating, burial to follow at Croatan Community Cemetery.
