Ruth Smith Lorenzen

She is survived by her daughter, Ingrid Heinkel of Amelia Island, FL and her two sons; Eric Lorenzen of Essex Fells, NJ and Lance Lorenzen of Little River, SC; as well as her two grandchildren Julian and Chloe Lorenzen of Essex Fells, N.J.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Cornelius on August 20, 2007.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm, Friday, December 21, 2012 at Christ Episcopal Church, New Bern. Reverend Dr. Peter Stube will be officiating. Burial will follow the funeral at Christ Episcopal Church.

Ruth Smith Lorenzen was born in Brooklyn, NY on February 22, 1932. She graduated from Belleview High School, NJ and completed her education at Katharine Gibbs School in New York. Ruth was the executive secretary to the president of Iron Age Magazine in New York City for several years. She married Cornelius Lorenzen, Jr. on August 14, 1954 and moved to Essex Fells, NJ where she raised her 3 children. In 1991, Ruth and Cornelius retired to New Bern, NC where they resided at Greenbrier, where she was actively involved with Mercy Clinic, Bank of Arts and Christ Episcopal Church. Ruth enjoyed socializing and playing golf and tennis with her many friends in New Bern. Ruth especially enjoyed spending time at the family beach house on Hatteras Island where she and her family and friends spent many years enjoying the seaside.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Christ Episcopal Church.
