Stephen Paul Stout, 51, of New Bern, North Carolina passed away on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at his home. Stephen was born on November 23, 1974 in Lakeland, Florida to James "Jim" Stout and the late Iris Arnold Stout.
Stephen’s passions and personality shaped so many of the memories people carry of him. As a teenager, he was involved in the band at Lake Gibson Senior High School, where his love of music and creativity first began to shine. He later built a career in the IT field, where his intelligence, curiosity, and problem-solving skills allowed him to thrive doing work he truly enjoyed.
Outside of work, Stephen had a deep love for games and storytelling. He especially enjoyed role-playing and card games such as Magic: The Gathering and Dungeons & Dragons, and he was a devoted anime and Star Wars fan. These interests brought him countless hours of fun and connection with friends and family.
Above all, Stephen will be remembered for his incredible sense of humor. He had a way of making anyone laugh, often at just the right moment, and his quick wit and playful spirit brought light and joy to those around him. His laughter and the happiness he shared with others will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
Thankful for his life and continuing in his memory are his children; daughter Kristyn Thompson (Tyler Thompson), grandchildren Damon, Rhonin, Castiel and Sebastian. His son Timothy Stout, Father James "Jim" Stout, Brother Mark Stout (Jlynn Yamrus) niece and nephew Ashley Stout (George Morris) and Beck Stout.
In addition to his mother Iris Stout, he is predeceased by his grandparents Sara Arnold, Olin Arnold, Betty Stout, and Alvie Stout.
