Thelma Lewis Gaskins, 79, of New Bern, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday evening, February 22, 2017. She loved the Lord and was a faithful member of Faith FWB Church. She had a great love for her family and many other children that she helped raise who called her "Mema."
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Faith FWB Church with Pastor Dwayne Boyd and Rev. Billy Hacker officiating. Burial will follow at Greenleaf Memorial Park.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, David Gaskins and son, Herbert Gaskins.
She is survived by her three loving daughters, Thelma "Sissy" Hill (Robert Jr.), Kathy Cahoon (Dallas), and Lori Ann Edwards; two sisters, Lela Oakley and Nettie Lupton (Sam); seven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
