Thomas "Tommy" Alvey Barrow Jr.

Thomas "Tommy" Alvey Barrow Jr., 93, of New Bern, North Carolina passed away on Sunday, March 16, 2025. Thomas was born in Dougherty, Georgia on December 21, 1931, to the late Thomas Alvey Barrow Sr. and Lillie Cornell Barrow.

Tommy served in the US Navy and at one point was stationed in Corpus Christi, Texas working with Naval blimp squadron. After his service to his country Tommy went on to serve his community working as a Bleach Plant Operator at Weyerhaeuser for over 25 years until he retired.

Left to cherish his memory and continue in his legacy is his wife of 71 years Alva Barrow, daughter Melinda Kay Barrow of New Bern, sons, Derrell Barrow and his wife Peggy of Oak City, NC and Kenneth E. Barrow of New Bern, five grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, and three siblings Marjorie, Barbara, and Bill.

In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his son Jeffery Barrow and four siblings Rosalynn, Emily, Madeline, and Carol.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 19, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Cotten Funeral Home, 2201 Neuse Blvd, New Bern, North Carolina 28560. A funeral service will occur on Thursday, March 20, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Tabernacle Baptist Church, 616 Broad Street, New Bern, North Carolina 28560 Dr. Scott Gleason officiating. He will be laid to rest following the service at Greenleaf Memorial Park Cemetery, 900 River Road, New Bern, North Carolina 28562.
